"CAROUSEL" - a poem by Kerry Alan Denney

Some friends (and loyal readers of mine) have asked me to republish my poem, "Carousel."

CAROUSEL

When we finally hop off this carousel
This flashing, whirling, maddeningly twirling
Ghastly beast of dreams
Both crushed and yearning
With all its glitter and promise of glory

When the looming shadows
Can no longer be thwarted
By the glistening glow of your gentle smile
And we prepare
For the final dance together

Oh, mighty steed!
That vibrant valiant stallion that bore you
Wind whistling through your autumn tresses
Carrying your lilting laughter
Back to my longing ears

Round and round the thundering hooves beckon me
To fade into the star-speckled twilight
My curtain call an encore pirouette
Dancing in your dazzling radiance
Forever prancing in your merry eyes
